AK Sinha removed, Punjab Power Corporations get new CMD
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, October 30, 2025: In a major administrative shake-up, the Punjab government has relieved senior IAS officer A.K. Sinha from his dual roles as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the Punjab State Power Transmission Corporation (PSTCL).
In his place, Dr. Basant Garg, 2005-batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the new CMD for both corporations, and will also serve as the Administrative Secretary of the Power Department.
The government orders directing the move instruct Sinha, a 1996-batch IAS officer, to report to the Department of Personnel—though he has not been assigned a new role immediately. Meanwhile, Garg takes charge of both entities in the power sector under the new arrangement.
According to sources, the transfer reportedly followed differences between A.K. Sinha and Ludhiana MLA Sanjeev Arora. However, officials have not confirmed this on record.
