Chandigarh, November 4, 2025:Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has sharply criticised Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, alleging that his recent remarks about former Union Home Minister late Sardar Buta Singh reflect a caste-based and discriminatory mindset.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the minister said that Warring’s comments in a circulated video, referring to Buta Singh in a derogatory manner, expose what he described as the Congress leader’s “manuwadi mentality.”
Harbhajan Singh pointed out that the late Buta Singh was a highly educated individual, holding degrees of B.A. (Honours), M.A., and Ph.D., and had worked in journalism before entering politics. He became a Member of Parliament at the age of 25 and went on to serve in key national roles.
The minister asserted that Warring’s “colour-based” comments were against the spirit of the Indian Constitution and reveal an underlying prejudice towards the Scheduled Castes.
Citing past instances, Harbhajan Singh added that the Congress Party has historically shown an anti-Dalit stance, recalling that Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa had earlier made an objectionable remark about a Dalit legislator in the Punjab Assembly.
He further said that India’s Scheduled Caste community remains indebted to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, whose constitutional vision of equality continues to protect them from such discriminatory attitudes.
