Batala (Punjab), November 9, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday inaugurated a newly constructed Tehsil Complex in Batala, aimed at improving access to administrative services for residents of 314 villages across six Assembly constituencies.
The complex, built at a cost of ₹10 crore on one acre and 5.5 kanals of land, will house offices of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tehsildar, Kanungo, and Patwaris, along with a citizen service center. It also includes an e-Registry office, waiting area, lift, and other public amenities.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Mann said the new complex would streamline administrative work for residents of Batala, Fatehgarh Churian, Qadian, Sri Hargobindpur Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak, and Kahnuwan constituencies. He said the facility’s proximity to the Judicial Complex and Police Lines would further enhance public convenience.
The Chief Minister also criticized the Centre for what he termed as “backdoor attempts” to alter Panjab University’s status, asserting that the institution is deeply rooted in the state’s cultural and historical identity. “Punjab will not allow any change in the university’s character,” Mann said.
He further accused the BJP-led Central Government of “anti-Punjab bias,” citing interference in BBMB and exclusion of Punjab’s tableaux from national functions.
On other issues, Mann said the state government will hold a series of events from November 23–25 to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, including a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha at Sri Anandpur Sahib. About ₹70 crore has been earmarked for developing 140 towns and villages linked to the Guru’s legacy.
The Chief Minister also highlighted his government’s initiatives, including recruitment of over 55,000 youth on merit, a 48% reduction in road accident deaths due to the Sadak Surakhya Force, and the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics — now numbering 881 and serving two crore people. He said the government has provided free electricity to 90% of households and closed 19 toll plazas, saving citizens ₹67 lakh per day.
Mann also expressed concern over the “declining credibility” of the Election Commission of India, alleging that the Commission’s silence on questions about EVMs undermines democratic transparency.
MLA Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi and other local leaders were present at the inauguration.
