Chandigarh, November 13, 2025:
The 3rd International Punjabi Language Olympiad, organised by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), has recorded 2,25,916 student registrations worldwide, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Thursday. The tally marks a sharp rise from 24,698 and 6,689 registrations in the previous editions, reflecting renewed enthusiasm for Punjabi among youth.
Bains attributed the surge to sustained outreach by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government, noting participation from students in countries such as Norway, Kenya and the UAE, as well as from Indian states including Maharashtra, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. “Seeing over 2.25 lakh students from across the globe connect with their linguistic roots is a dream coming true for our government,” he said.
Outlining incentives, the minister said the top 10 performers in each category—Primary, Middle and Secondary—will receive Rs 11,000 (first), Rs 7,100 (second) and Rs 5,100 (third). Special awards and recognition will also be conferred on schools producing top achievers to foster healthy competition.
PSEB Chairman Dr Amarpal Singh said registrations closed on October 31. To familiarise students with the online testing pattern, PSEB provided e-books and ran a mock test window on November 10, 11 and 12, which saw 1,35,784 students take practice tests. Another round of practice tests for elementary-level students is scheduled on November 15 and 16.
The Olympiad will be conducted through online tests on December 5 (Primary), December 6 (Middle) and December 8 (Secondary), followed by Round 2 on December 15–16 and the final on December 23, 2025. Singh said the examinations will be closely monitored using the latest technology to ensure integrity.
