Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, December 20, 2025 —The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Principal Bench, New Delhi, has directed that no allotments or permissions shall be granted under the Punjab government notification dated November 20, 2025, concerning land around the Chandigarh periphery, till the next date of hearing.
The order was passed while hearing plea filed by the Council of Engineers and others, which relates to environmental concerns over construction activities near the Chandigarh periphery.
The Bench, comprising Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, and Dr. A. Senthil Vel, Expert Member, granted four weeks’ time to the State of Punjab and its authorities to file their reply. Counsel appearing for other respondents stated that they would seek instructions and file replies, if required.
During the hearing, the applicant expressed apprehension that allotments might be made in the interim under the impugned notification. Responding to this, the State assured the Tribunal that no allotments or permissions would be issued until the next hearing and clarified that no such approvals have been granted so far.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on February 4, 2026.
