Ferozepur, December 26, 2025: Ten-year-old Shavan Singh of Tarawali village in Ferozepur district was today conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas in New Delhi, for his exemplary act of patriotism and selfless service.
A Class IV student, Shavan won hearts during Operation Sindoor by voluntarily serving water, lassi, milk and tea to Army jawans deployed near his village. His simple yet inspiring gesture reflected a deep sense of gratitude and respect towards the armed forces.
This year, the prestigious award has been presented to 20 children from 18 States and Union Territories for demonstrating outstanding achievements in various fields. December 26 is observed annually as Veer Bal Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the young sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, whose supreme sacrifice continues to inspire generations with ideals of courage, faith and patriotism.
Earlier, in recognition of Shavan’s noble spirit, the Army’s Golden Arrow Division had honoured him with the title of “Youngest Civil Warrior” and announced sponsorship of his education. Western Army Commander Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar had personally felicitated the young boy, highlighting the strong bond between the Army and the people.
After receiving the award from the President, an elated Shavan said, “When Operation Sindoor began against Pakistan and soldiers came to our village, I felt I should serve them. I used to take milk, tea and ice for them every day. I am extremely happy to receive this award. I had never imagined even in my dreams that I would be honoured in this way.”
Notably, Shavan Singh is the only student from Punjab to receive the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar this year, bringing pride to the state and his district.
