Chandigarh, December 30, 2025: A resolution opposing the Centre’s proposed ‘G-RAM-G’ initiative was brought in the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday, with Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh strongly urging its immediate withdrawal.
Presenting the resolution in the House, Sondh said the move would harm the interests of the poor and deprive them of their livelihood. He asserted that justice must be ensured for economically weaker sections, alleging that the Centre was “snatching bread from the mouths of the poor.”
The minister also moved a resolution against laws that, according to him, aim to weaken or dismantle the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). He accused the Central government of targeting welfare schemes meant for rural labourers.

Taking a political swipe, Sondh said the Shiromani Akali Dal had maintained silence on the issue due to a “possible alliance,” while also attacking the Congress party. He said Congress leaders were terming the ongoing Assembly session a “waste of money,” questioning their seriousness towards issues affecting the poor.
