Chandigarh, December 30, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over the MNREGA issue, holding the Centre responsible for what he termed as “deliberate chaos” harming Punjab’s development and the livelihood of poor labourers.
Speaking during a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mann strongly opposed the new MNREGA rules, referred to as G-Ram-G, and squarely blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Modi has created this entire mess. The Central government is putting obstacles in the way of Punjab’s progress and snatching employment from the poor,” he said.
Taking a dig at the opposition, the Chief Minister accused the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP of being politically aligned behind the scenes.

“They pretend to oppose each other publicly, but from within they are all the same. These traditional parties have no real concern for the poor of Punjab,” Mann alleged.
Reacting to Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s statement about protesting outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi, Mann remarked sarcastically, “These Congressmen cannot even sit in the Assembly for four hours. How will they stage a protest outside Modi’s house? They are only talkative lions.”
Mann said the opposition was resorting to political gimmicks to divert public attention from core issues. He asserted that his government would continue to fight for the rights of Punjab’s poor and working class.
Following the Chief Minister’s remarks, the House witnessed loud protests and sloganeering by opposition members, leading to a heated atmosphere during the session.
