Vigilance Bureau arrests Tehsildar for accepting bribe of Rs 30,000

Chandigarh, January 1, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Jagtar Singh, Tehsildar posted in Sangrur district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000.
According to a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint by a resident of Mehlan village, Sangrur. The complainant alleged that the Tehsildar, along with clerk Malvinder Singh posted at the Sangrur tehsil office, demanded and accepted money for executing a land registry.
After verification of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Range, Patiala. During a search of the Tehsildar’s residence, ₹1.45 lakh was recovered.
The clerk named in the case has not yet been arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
