328 Missing Saroops Case: SIT conducts raids at 14 locations, arrests two

Amritsar (Punjab), January 4, 2026:The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case of 328 missing Saroops has intensified its action, arresting two accused and carrying out coordinated search operations at 14 locations across Punjab and Chandigarh.
According to an official spokesperson, the FIR registered at Police Station C-Division, Commissionerate Amritsar, names 16 individuals.
Of these, two accused have reportedly passed away, while investigations are underway against the remaining 14. The two arrested so far have been identified as Satinder Singh Kohli and Kanwaljit Singh alias Kawaljit Singh.
The spokesperson said Kanwaljit Singh was arrested on January 3, 2026. He was working as an assistant and allegedly played a direct role in serious irregularities related to the maintenance and handling of religious scriptures, as well as their unauthorized preparation and storage.
As part of the ongoing probe, the SIT conducted searches at two locations in Chandigarh, eight in Amritsar city, and one each in Gurdaspur, Ropar, Tarn Taran, and Amritsar Rural. During these operations, the team seized seven mobile phones, three tablets, two laptops, one storage device, along with incriminating financial records and documents.
Officials said the seized electronic devices will be subjected to forensic examination, while the financial documents are being scrutinized for suspected payments made by companies linked to several individuals, including political figures, whose roles are under examination.
The SIT stated that the investigation is being carried out in a systematic and meticulous manner, adding that further searches and arrests are likely as the probe continues.
