Health Dept issues advisory to prevent cold wave-related illnesses
Ferozepur, January 7, 2026: In view of the prevailing cold wave conditions, the Health Department has issued an advisory to prevent cold-related health problems. Civil Surgeon Ferozepur, Dr. Rajeev Parashar, said that extreme cold can aggravate health issues, particularly among the elderly, children, pregnant women and patients suffering from chronic ailments, who require special care during this season.
He explained that exposure to a severe cold may lead to hypothermia, excessive shivering, memory loss, unconsciousness and general weakness. Dr. Parashar further noted that the body’s immunity weakens during winter, making people more vulnerable to infections. He advised citizens to consume a balanced diet, include vitamin C-rich foods, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and avoid junk food. Freshly prepared meals, warm water and soups should be preferred, while consumption of alcohol should be avoided.
The Civil Surgeon also appealed to the public to avoid going outdoors during early mornings and evenings, especially advising against taking elderly persons and children outside during these hours.
District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma and Deputy Mass Media Officers Ankush Bhandari and Neha Bhandari urged people to immediately consult a doctor in case of flu, cough, cold or fever. They also advised wearing windproof warm clothing while stepping out or driving, and keeping hands, feet and fingers well covered. Citizens were asked not to venture outside without proper winter gear such as gloves, caps and mufflers.
