Sports Kits for Amritsar Youth Clubs to Promote Fitness and Drug-Free Youth: Sukhwinder Singh Bindra
Amritsar 9 Jan 2026- Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member (NISD) and Special Invitee/Member (NCCDR) in Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, (Government of India) announced under the leadership of Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, that Sports kits will be provided to Youth Clubs under "Youth of Punjab" Campaign in Amritsar district. Along with this, Bindra emphasized the importance of sports in keeping the younger generation away from drug abuse. He stated that in the coming time, more initiatives will be undertaken to steer youth away from drugs and motivate them toward sports.
On this occasion, Sukhwinder Singh Bindra said that his Ministry is consistently working to keep youth away from substance abuse. He added that his department, along with Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, will continue working for the welfare of Youth, and every possible effort will be made to ensure their well-being, development, and protection from drugs. Bindra also highlighted the crucial role of youth empowerment and awareness programs in preventing drug abuse.
He further informed that earlier, under the leadership of Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar and Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria, a state-level event under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organized on November 18, 2025, at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, to make Punjab’s youth drug-free. More than 20,000 participants—including school and college students, BSF personnel, self-help groups, spiritual organizations, Youth clubs, and non-governmental organizations—took part in the event. In the future, more such programs will be planned to keep youth away from drugs and connect them with sports.
Sukhwinder Singh Bindra also stated that he has previously served as the State Chairperson of the Punjab Youth Development Board (Government of Punjab). During his tenure, he carried out extensive work to keep youth away from drugs and encourage them toward sports. Free sports kits were distributed to promote sports in youth clubs, colleges, and universities. Additionally, whenever athletes faced difficulties, solutions were provided to ensure that their sporting careers did not suffer. Even now, his department continues to extend full support to athletes.
In conclusion, Bindra expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Cabinet Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar for their visionary leadership and commitment to empowering the youth.
