Greater Noida, January 18, 2026:A tragic accident triggered by dense fog claimed the life of a 27-year-old software engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, in Sector 150, Greater Noida, late Saturday night. The incident has sparked serious questions over alleged administrative negligence and poor road safety measures.
Yuvraj, a resident of Gurugram, was returning home by car when extremely poor visibility due to dense fog caused his vehicle to veer off the road. His car hit the edge of a drain and plunged into a 70-foot-deep, water-filled pit.
Local residents who witnessed the car falling said they heard screams but were unable to see clearly because of the fog. After nearly five hours of rescue operations, teams of the NDRF and police recovered the vehicle and Yuvraj’s body.
Moments before his death, Yuvraj made a distress call to his father, Rajkumar. His last words were reportedly, “Papa, I am drowning… I don’t want to die, please save me.” His father tried to trace the location and rushed to the spot, but by the time he arrived, Yuvraj had succumbed. Overcome with grief, he collapsed at the site.
The bereaved family and local residents have squarely blamed the local administration, alleging that the service road lacked reflectors, warning signs, and barricades, making the dangerous turn invisible in foggy conditions. They also pointed out that open drains and deep pits were left uncovered.
