ASMITA Weightlifting League organised at CGC Landran empowers female weightlifters
Chandigarh, 21 Jan 2026- Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran organized the ‘ASMITA Weightlifting League 2025-2026’, under the aegis of Khelo India program, supported by the Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India and Indian Weightlifting Federation. More than 70 female weightlifters from universities, colleges and independent sports clubs from across the Tricity area including CGC Landran, participated in this prestigious competition. The participants competed in eight weight categories under Junior, Senior and Youth sections. The primary objective of ASMITA Weightlifting League is to encourage female participation at the grassroots level and create pathways for athletes to progress into professional competition. It also highlights the ongoing efforts by the Government of India to build an inclusive and sustainable sports ecosystem for women in India. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest, Harmanpreet Kaur, Punjab’s best female weightlifter 2024-25 &2025-26 and senior national champion. Other dignitaries at the occasion included Parampal Singh Dhillon, Vice Chairman, CGC Landran; Dr. Rajdeep Singh, Campus Director, CGC Landran; Capt. Vinod Jaswal, HoD, Sports, CGC Landran; Deans and Directors of the institution. Female weightlifters from CGC Landran bagged 11 medals in the competition comprising six silver medals and 5 bronze medals. Highlights of winners in other categories ~ In the 69 Kg weight category (Senior), Bhoomiza Vaid bagged gold, Arshdeep Kaur bagged silver and Puja Kumari from CGC Landran won the bronze medal; In the 77 kg weight category (Senior), Shalini, Diksha and Sohani won the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the 77 kg weight category (Junior), Anya Rakwal won gold, Bedika Kaushal won silver while Diksha won the bronze medal. In the 86 Kg weight category (Junior), Jaismeen Kaur Sandhu, Kiran Kanwar and Ruchi won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively; In the 86+ Kg weight category (Junior), Navjot Chaudhary, Sanna and Brindawani Panchani won the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the 69 Kg weight category (Youth) Kangna and Bhoomiza Vaid won the gold and silver medals, respectively. In the 58 Kg weight category (Youth) Simran, Jyotsna, and Anandita Kumari bagged the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajdeep Singh, Campus Director, CGC Landran said, “The ASMITA Weightlifting League provides an important platform for young women to showcase their talent and gain confidence through sports. Hosting this competition at CGC Landran reflects our commitment to supporting women athletes and strengthening grassroots participation in mainstream competitive sports.” National and international level referees officiated the competition, ensuring high technical standards and fair play throughout the event.
