FIR lodged against SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun over Republic Day threats
New Delhi, January 23, 2026 (ANI):The Delhi Police Special Cell has filed an FIR against Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for allegedly issuing threats to create unrest in the national capital ahead of Republic Day on January 26.
The case has been registered under Sections 196, 197, 152, and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), covering promoting enmity, acts prejudicial to national integration, endangering sovereignty, and criminal conspiracy.
Police sources said Pannun recently released a video claiming that his "sleeper cells" had put up pro-Khalistan posters in Rohini and Dabri. However, verification revealed no such posters at the reported locations.
Ahead of the 77th Republic Day, Delhi Police has deployed a technology-driven multi-layered security apparatus across Kartavya Path and the New Delhi district, including 10,000 personnel, anti-drone units, sniper teams, and AI-integrated CCTV with facial recognition. Pedestrians and vehicles will undergo multiple layers of security checks, and intensive verification drives are underway in hotels and guest accommodations.
Police have advised guests and visitors to follow designated routes, use digital passes, and comply with security instructions. Items such as bags, electronic gadgets (except mobiles and power banks), food, and inflammables are prohibited inside enclosures.
The public is urged to report any suspicious activity immediately by contacting police personnel or calling 112.
