2 Punjab MPs among 8 MPs suspended from Lok Sabha till Budget end
New Delhi, February 3, 2026 (ANI):
Eight opposition Members of Parliament, including two MPs from Punjab, were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for the remainder of the Budget Session following repeated disruptions and alleged violation of House rules.
The suspension came amid heated proceedings during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. The House witnessed multiple adjournments after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi insisted on making references related to the 2020 eastern Ladakh standoff with China, which the Chair disallowed.
As the proceedings resumed, continued sloganeering by opposition members led to chaos in the House. Some MPs were seen throwing papers towards the Chair, prompting strong objections from the Treasury benches. BJP MP Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the House at the time, named eight opposition members for disorderly conduct.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju subsequently moved a motion seeking the suspension of the eight MPs for “violating parliamentary rules and obstructing proceedings,” which was adopted by the House amid protests from the opposition.
The suspended MPs include Congress members Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Prashant Yadaorao Padole, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Dean Kuriakose, along with CPI(M) MP S. Venkatesan. Among them, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Gurjeet Singh Aujla represent constituencies in Punjab.
Opposition parties condemned the suspensions, calling them undemocratic, while the government maintained that strict action was necessary to uphold the dignity and discipline of Parliament.
The Lok Sabha has seen repeated disruptions over the past two days over the same issue, leading to several adjournments and now the suspension of members till the conclusion of the Budget Session.
