Chandigarh, February 13, 2026: The Punjab Government has intensified its outreach for senior citizens under the ‘Our Elders, Our Pride’ campaign, with nearly 9,000 elderly residents registering at district-level health camps across the state.
Sharing the details, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur said the initiative reflects the government’s grassroots commitment to safeguarding the health, dignity and rights of senior citizens under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
According to official figures, 2,268 elderly participants underwent general medical check-ups, 1,241 availed orthopaedic consultations and 2,607 received eye examinations during the camps. Additionally, 631 seniors took part in yoga sessions, 551 received homoeopathic treatment and 791 benefitted from ayurvedic healthcare services.
Under the ALIMCO scheme, 243 senior citizens were registered, with 89 provided assistive devices such as wheelchairs, spectacles and hearing aids. The camps also facilitated the processing of 233 old age pension applications and issuance of 306 senior citizen identity cards.
The Minister stated that health camps have already been conducted in districts including Sri Amritsar Sahib, Barnala, Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Mansa, Patiala, Rupnagar and S.A.S. Camps in the remaining districts — Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Malerkotla, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sangrur and Tarn Taran — will be organised shortly as part of a phased rollout.
Highlighting the financial commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that ₹7.86 crore has been earmarked under the State Action Plan for Senior Citizens to conduct these district-level health camps and associated welfare activities. Apart from medical services, the initiative also covers cataract surgeries, distribution of assistive aids and awareness about legal and social rights of the elderly.
Calling senior citizens the “living heritage” of society, the Minister urged families to ensure their elderly members participate in the camps and avail the available benefits, reiterating that the state government remains committed to ensuring that every senior citizen in Punjab lives with dignity, care and security.
