High Court stays CAT order granting status quo on transfer of power employees to CPDL

Chandigarh, February 14, 2026: In a shocker for power employees of Chandigarh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the operation of an interim order passed by Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Chandigarh Bench, granting status quo on the transfer of employees from Electricity Wing of UT Engineering Department to Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL).
After CAT order, UT Chandigarh had challenged it in a writ petition in High Court and now High Court has stayed orders of CAT which were given on January 29, 2026.
CAT had ruled that these power employees were still employees of Electricity Wing.
It is worth mentioning here that UT Chandigarh has privatized power distribution in the city and has formed CPDL.
