Ludhiana (Punjab), February 15, 2026: National BJP leader and Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan strongly backed Union Home Minister Amit Shah while criticizing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
In a statement shared across his official social media platforms, Grewal said the FTAs signed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with major global partners including the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union are strengthening India’s global standing and creating large-scale opportunities for farmers, fishermen, youth, entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
He asserted that these agreements have been carefully negotiated with national interest at the core, ensuring full protection to agriculture, dairy, livestock and other sensitive sectors while simultaneously boosting exports, employment and economic growth.
Grewal termed it “unfortunate” that Rahul Gandhi was allegedly attempting to mislead farmers and fishermen by spreading confusion regarding the trade pacts. He said such statements promote fear and misinformation, ultimately harming national unity and creating unnecessary doubt among hardworking citizens.
Highlighting the Centre’s approach, Grewal stated that every agreement under the Modi government is signed after detailed study and consultation, unlike what he described as inadequate safeguards for agriculture during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Referring to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Grewal said that nearly 70 per cent of global trade markets are now accessible to India through FTAs with 38 developed nations. He claimed this would significantly enhance exports, generate employment and empower farmers, fishermen, MSMEs and youth. He added that sensitive sectors such as dairy, agriculture and genetically modified food remain protected, while sectors like textiles, leather and electronics are witnessing global expansion.
Grewal further stated that the fishing community stands to gain substantially through expanded export markets, better pricing opportunities, improved infrastructure and enhanced global recognition of Indian products.
He urged Rahul Gandhi to study policy details before making public remarks, adding that “repeating misinformation cannot overshadow facts.” Grewal expressed confidence that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India is steadily progressing towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ with economic strength, farmer welfare and enhanced global respect.
He concluded by asserting that the people of India would continue to support leadership committed to development, transparency and national interest.
