Chandigarh, February 24, 2026: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia appeared before the Chandigarh District Court on Monday in connection with a 2021 case related to the attempted gherao of the Chief Minister’s residence.
The court has fixed March 5 as the next date of hearing.
The case pertains to an incident in 2021 when the Shiromani Akali Dal staged protests against rising inflation and other public issues, attempting to surround the then Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh.
During the protest, clashes reportedly broke out between party workers and the Chandigarh Police, following which a case was registered against Majithia and several others on charges including violation of government orders.
Earlier, the proceedings in the matter had been stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
However, after the stay was recently vacated—following developments in a separate disproportionate assets case in which Majithia secured bail—the trial in this case has resumed.
Complying with the summons issued by the court for Tuesday, Majithia appeared in person.
Notably, he had sought a one-day exemption from appearance on Monday citing an urgent party meeting, after which he was directed to appear today.
Further proceedings in the matter will now take place on March 5.
