Vajra Corps marks 76th Raising Day, Reaffirms commitment as ‘Defenders of Punjab’
Jalandhar, March 1, 2026: The Indian Army’s Vajra Corps commemorated its 76th Raising Day on March 1, 2026, celebrating over seven decades of distinguished service to the nation. Raised in 1950, Vajra Corps was the first Corps of the Indian Army to be established after Independence.
Over the years, the Corps has played a crucial role along the Western Front, earning laurels during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. It was instrumental in the historic victories at Dograi, Barki and Khem Karan, reinforcing its reputation for operational excellence and battlefield prowess.
Apart from its wartime achievements, Vajra Corps has consistently demonstrated steadfast commitment to national security. The formation displayed high standards of professionalism during Operation Sindoor and Operation Rahat, while also actively engaging in outreach initiatives that strengthened ties between the military, civil administration, veterans, families and the wider civil society in the border state of Punjab.
Decorated with 25 Battle Honours, four Honour Titles and 38 Theatre Honours, Vajra Corps proudly carries forward its legacy as the “Defenders of Punjab” as it enters its 76th year of dedicated service to the nation.
