Chandigarh, March 2, 2026: In a tragic incident reported from Hazara Singh Wala village in Ferozepur district, 19 children reportedly fell ill after consuming contaminated water, while a 13-year-old girl lost her life.
According to details shared by Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, the deceased has been identified as Sehj Kaur, daughter of Manjit Singh. The incident has triggered outrage, with the SAD terming it a “deeply shameful” episode for Punjab.
Badal alleged that the village water works had not been cleaned, forcing residents to consume unsafe and allegedly toxic water. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government of making tall claims about development while failing to ensure basic amenities like clean drinking water in rural areas.
The SAD president further stated that Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants installed in villages during the tenure of the Shiromani Akali Dal government were later shut down by successive regimes, depriving villagers of access to safe drinking water.
Holding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directly responsible, Badal alleged that while large sums are being spent on publicity, essential services for citizens are being neglected.
He expressed condolences over the death of the minor and prayed for the speedy recovery of the children undergoing treatment.
