Ferozepur Municipal Council honours 11 women as ‘Swachhata Champion Women’ on IWD
Ferozepur, March 9, 2026: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Municipal Council felicitated 11 outstanding women as “Swachhata Champion Women” for their significant contributions to cleanliness, solid waste management, and the Swachh Bharat Mission in the city and district.
The event, held in compliance with guidelines from PMIDC Chandigarh, recognized women from diverse fields—including administration, education, healthcare, and community service—who have supported sanitation drives, waste segregation, and urban cleanliness initiatives over the years.
Among the honourees were: Ms. Deep Shikha Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, praised for her leadership during floods, border challenges, and special cleanliness drives across the district. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), for guiding sanitation worker training and relief efforts. Dr. Amandeep Kaur Goshal, for health awareness and community support. Ms. Lindhya L.N., Assistant Commissioner, noted for efficient event management and cleanliness during major processions. Dr. Sangeeta, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, for promoting hygiene and waste management on campus. Dr. Mokshi, Professor at the same college, recognized for environmental education and awards in cleanliness initiatives. Ms. Rinki Rani, Superintendent (Urban Development), for ensuring timely achievement of government targets in sanitation schemes. Ms. Balwinder Kaur, MIS Expert, instrumental in Ferozepur’s top rankings in Swachh Survekshan surveys. Ms. Poonam Bhatnagar, Executive Officer, Nagar Council Ferozepur, honoured for nearly 39 years of dedicated service despite challenges. Ms. Harjeet Kaur Dhillon, for sustainable home gardening and organic waste management. Ms. Gunja Devi, a dedicated garbage collector, lauded for her honest and hardworking role in waste segregation at collection points.
The awards included phulkari (a symbol of Punjabi culture) and citations highlighting their achievements. Executive Officer Ms. Poonam Bhatnagar emphasized that the recognitions aim to inspire more participation in cleanliness efforts. Sanitation Superintendent Dr. Sukhpal Singh and other staff were present at the event.
This initiative underscores the pivotal role of women in advancing sustainable urban sanitation and community welfare in Ferozepur.
