Mohali (Punjab), March 27, 2026: Launching a scathing attack on the Punjab Government, Vineet Joshi, State Media Head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Punjab), alleged large-scale illegal mining along the Siswan river in the Majri block of Kharar Assembly constituency following an on-ground visit prompted by complaints from local villagers.
Joshi claimed that the assertions made by Punjab’s Mines and Geology Minister, Barinder Kumar Goyal, regarding strict action against illegal mining stand contradicted by the situation on the ground.
He stated that illegal mining activities are continuing openly in several villages, including Sohali, Nangliyan, Kherpur, Fatehgarh, Andhedi, Jhingran, Shekhpura, Siamipur, Malkpur, Teur, Dosarna, Rudki Kham, Phantwan, Dhakoran, Bhalpur, Chandpur, and Kadimajra.
He further alleged that the mining operations are being carried out with political backing, citing claims by villagers who have accused the brother of MLA Anmol Gagan Mann of involvement.
“Despite large-scale mining, particularly during night hours, the Mining Department and Punjab Police appear to have taken no action, pointing towards administrative failure and possible political protection,” Joshi said.
Seeking accountability, Joshi also questioned the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging immediate intervention.
He said that any delay or inaction would raise serious concerns about the government’s commitment to tackling illegal mining in the state, adding that the public is closely monitoring the situation.
