Sirhind/Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), March 28, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday made a series of major announcements aimed at boosting agriculture and infrastructure, including a plan to provide underground electricity supply to farmers across the state.
Addressing a gathering in Sirhind during the inauguration of Aam Aadmi Clinics, the Chief Minister said that electricity poles will be removed from agricultural fields and replaced with underground power lines. He noted that this initiative will significantly reduce the risk of fire incidents in fields and prevent accidents caused by overhead wires and poles.
Mann further said that farmers are no longer forced to irrigate their fields at night, as the government is ensuring the availability of electricity during daytime hours, bringing much-needed relief to the farming community.
Highlighting the government’s approach, Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party is committed to public service rather than politics. “AAP is a party of the common people, working for service and welfare, unlike traditional parties focused on power,” he said, adding that the party’s priorities include health, education, and agriculture.
In a significant move related to religious sentiments, the Chief Minister also announced that a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha will be convened on April 13. He said the government plans to introduce stricter provisions in law to ensure severe punishment for acts of sacrilege against the Guru Granth Sahib, proposing a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment, extendable to life imprisonment.
Concluding his address, Mann said his government remains unfazed by criticism from opposition parties and is focused on transforming the state into a prosperous and vibrant Punjab once again.
