Moga (Punjab), April 4, 2026:In a major political development, senior leader Barjinder Singh “Makhan” Brar has resigned from all positions and primary membership of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punarsurjeet), dealing a significant blow to the party.
In a detailed resignation letter, Brar said he was stepping down with a “heavy heart,” citing serious concerns over the party’s direction and internal functioning.
Making sensational claims, Brar alleged that the “Punarsurjeet” faction was part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by central agencies to weaken the parent Shiromani Akali Dal. He further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government was also complicit in efforts to undermine the Akali Dal.
Brar launched a sharp attack on Manpreet Singh Iali, accusing him of misleading him into joining the faction. He alleged that Iali speaks against the Akali Dal but remains silent on the government, possibly due to personal business interests. Brar also claimed that Iali had been offered the post of Deputy Chief Minister in Punjab.
He also criticized former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, alleging that he used the name of Akal Takht Sahib to emotionally influence the Sikh community. Brar further claimed that Giani Harpreet Singh acts under directions from Delhi and is part of efforts to weaken the Akali Dal.
Expressing regret, Brar admitted that he had unknowingly become part of a larger conspiracy against the Akali Dal. He stated that his conscience no longer allowed him to remain silent and announced that he would soon present the “truth” before the Sikh community.
