Mohali (Punjab), April 5, 2026: Former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader Balbir Singh Sidhu on Sunday said that a large number of Congress workers from the Mohali Assembly constituency will participate in the ongoing farmers’ protest against the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).
He said that he has been visiting villages over the past several days to mobilise people and ensure strong participation in the protest.
In a statement, Sidhu said farmers and the general public are increasingly frustrated with the “anti-people policies” of the present government, adding that there is widespread resentment against the Bhagwant Mann-led government.
Strongly criticising GMADA, he alleged that the authority has been exploiting farmers by acquiring their land at low prices while ignoring their interests. “It is unfortunate that farmers are being forced to sit on roads to demand fair compensation for their own land,” he said.
Sidhu further recalled that the state government had earlier faced strong opposition over the proposed acquisition of around 15,000 acres of land in Ludhiana and Mohali districts, and was forced to withdraw its notification following public backlash.
He asserted that the Congress party “stands like a rock” with farmers and will continue to support their struggle until their demands are met.
Appealing to residents and party workers, Sidhu urged them to participate in large numbers in the protest to “wake up” the government and the GMADA administration.
