MP Satnam Sandhu attends final prayers for Vrindavan Boat tragedy victims, announces MP LAD fund assistance

Jagraon (Punjab), April 19, 2026: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu today met the families of devotees who lost their lives in the tragic boat accident at Vrindavan, Mathura, and expressed deep condolences during his visit to Jagraon.
He attended multiple bhog and antim ardas (final prayer) ceremonies held at Geeta Bhawan and Gurdwara Dashmesh Nagar in Jagraon, where prayers were offered for the departed souls.
Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and heartbreaking, Sandhu said that the entire nation, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands with the bereaved families in this difficult time. He added that the Prime Minister has also expressed profound grief over the tragedy.
During the visit, the MP announced financial assistance from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund for the construction of a memorial in the name of the victims at Gurdwara Dashmesh Nagar. He said the utilisation of the funds will be decided jointly by the affected families and local residents.
The tragic incident occurred on April 10 in Vrindavan, where a boat capsized in the Yamuna river. Around 30 people were on board at the time, of whom 16 devotees from Punjab lost their lives, including several from Jagraon and nearby areas.
Family members of the deceased, along with local residents and dignitaries, attended the prayer meetings and prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families.
