Dera Bassi (Punjab), April 21, 2026:Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu and senior BJP leader Gurdarshan Singh Saini jointly visited grain markets in Dera Bassi to assess ongoing wheat procurement and address farmers’ concerns.
During the visit, the leaders interacted with farmers and commission agents, listening to issues related to procurement and assuring them of full support from the Centre. They reiterated that the government remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests.

Speaking to the media, Sandhu said that unseasonal rainfall had created difficulties for farmers across Punjab, but swift intervention by Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped stabilise the situation. He noted that the Centre released necessary relaxations and approved a cash credit limit of ₹35,000 crore to ensure smooth procurement.
Sandhu added that around 39 lakh metric tonnes of wheat had already been procured in the state, with the government aiming to complete procurement within the targeted range in the coming days.

Highlighting ground-level challenges, Saini said that issues such as labour shortages and sporadic gunny bag (bardana) shortages were being addressed in coordination with local administration and market stakeholders. He expressed confidence that all procurement operations would be completed within a week and assured that every grain brought to the mandis would be lifted.
Several local leaders and workers were also present during the visit, expressing appreciation for the Centre’s measures to support farmers during the procurement season.
