150 mobiles seized during 2026
Prisoners secret lifeline crushed, 12 mobiles seized from under-trial prisoners from Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, April 24, 2026: Shockwaves in Ferozepur Central Jail as authorities smashed prisoners' "lifeline to the outer world," seizing 150 illegal mobiles in 2026 alone— January 40, February 51, Mach 34 an April 25 - including a fresh haul of 12 today in a relentless crackdown.
A case has been registered under Sections 52A and 42 of the Prisons Act on a complaint by the Assistant Superintendent against eight under trial prisoners: Albaksh Singh alias Kaka, Gulshan Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Parbjeet Singh, Gurjinder Singh alias Nikka, Harnek Singh, and Achhar. ASI Sukhdev Singh is leading the investigation.
Data reveals a sharp rise in recoveries over the years: 70 mobiles in 2019, 130 in 2020, 265 in 2021, 437 in 2022, 469 in 2023, 500 in 2024, 649 in 2025, and 150 already in 2026 so far.
Contraband is often smuggled in by throwing packets over boundary walls, hiding them in clothing or body cavities during family visits or parole returns, or exploiting security lapses at checkpoints.
Only the modern surveillance and security technologies are expected to curb the issue. Police are adopting a cautious probe, avoiding police remand for the prisoners due to high security risks, except in high-profile cases.
