Worker Deaths Expose Punjab Government, Municipal Corporation and Ludhiana Administrative Failure in Ludhiana: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal
Ludhiana, 1 June 2026: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan expressed profound grief, anguish and outrage over the tragic death of 3 workers who reportedly lost their lives 2 hospitalised after being exposed to toxic gas during sewer/sludge cleaning operations in the Industrial Area located on Ghoda Road, Ludhiana Ludhiana South Legislative Assembly Constituency.
Grewal said that this heartbreaking incident has once again exposed the shocking negligence, administrative apathy and complete failure of the Punjab Government and the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana in ensuring the safety and dignity of workers. He said that three innocent labourers have lost their lives while earning a livelihood for their families, and such tragedies cannot be brushed aside as mere accidents.
He said that every time a major tragedy occurs, the Punjab Government makes routine announcements, forms committees and issues statements, but the ground reality remains unchanged. Grewal stated that if proper safety measures, protective equipment, monitoring mechanisms and emergency response systems had been in place, these precious lives could have been saved.
Grewal told that the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, must provide a clear and transparent explanation to the people regarding how such a serious lapse occurred. He said that the citizens of Ludhiana have every right to know whether all mandatory safety protocols were being followed and whether the concerned authorities discharged their responsibilities with honesty and seriousness.
Grewal said that the loss suffered by the affected families is immeasurable. Three households have lost their earning members and their future has been pushed into uncertainty. He said that no amount of compensation can replace a human life, yet the Punjab Government must immediately provide substantial financial assistance, secure employment support for eligible family members and ensure long-term welfare measures for the dependents of the deceased workers.
He said that it is deeply disturbing that despite repeated incidents across various parts of the state, worker safety continues to be treated with indifference. Grewal stated that governments are elected to protect the lives of citizens, not to remain silent spectators while workers continue to face dangerous conditions due to administrative failures and lack of accountability.
Grewal told that the BJP strongly stands with the grieving families in this hour of sorrow and fully supports the demand for a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation. He said that responsibility must be fixed at every level and any individual found negligent must face strict legal and departmental action without political interference or bureaucratic protection.
Grewal further said that this tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for the Punjab Government. Instead of indulging in publicity and political distractions, the government must focus on public safety, infrastructure management and the protection of workers who form the backbone of society.
He said that the repeated occurrence of such incidents reflects a disturbing pattern of administrative inefficiency and lack of preparedness. The people of Punjab deserve a government that acts before tragedies occur rather than offering explanations after lives have already been lost.
Grewal told that the Bharatiya Janata Party pays its heartfelt tribute to the departed souls and prays for eternal peace for the deceased workers. He also prayed that the bereaved families find strength and courage to endure this irreparable loss.
“The lives of workers are not disposable. Every death caused by negligence is a reminder that those entrusted with public responsibility must be held answerable. Punjab deserves accountability, transparency and a system that values human life above all else.”
