Sunil Jakhar and other Congress leaders meet Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Punjab on Tuesday in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, May 24, 2016:
Seeking Union government’s intervention to save Punjab, leaders of Punjab Congress under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar, Vice President of PPCC, submitted a memorandum to Kaptan Singh Solanki, governor of Punjab, here on Tuesday.
The Congress leader told the governor that Punjab was is heading for anarchy and lawlessness has become order of the day.
The Congress leader said an atmosphere of fear and insecurity has been prevailing in the state. The crime has become so much organised and institutionalized that the Director General of Police himself admitted that 57 organised criminal gangs operating in the state. However, the Police is not doing anything despite knowing everything for the obvious reasons of political interference and pressure by their Akali bosses.
The Congress party said that the repercussions are before all of us. Punjab is on the brink of anarchy. It is threatening to turn into jungle raj.
Jakhar reiterated Punjab is a sensitive state for multiple reasons. It borders Pakistan. Besides, we are already into the election year with assembly elections less than a year away. Last but not the least Punjab’s economy is in terminal decline. It will need huge efforts to retrieve and revive it. We need to build up the confidence of investors. If the law and order continues to collapse like this, who will dare to invest in Punjab?
He pleaded to the Governor to take up the matter with the Union Home Minister to flag for his attention the urgency and seriousness that the collapsed law and order situation in Punjab demands and deserves. We hope the matter will not be viewed in partisan context. Just because we are the principal opposition party in the state should not be construed as the matter being politicized. What we have brought to your kind attention is the ground reality, which even you will also be well aware as it is being reported every day in the media.
