Kharar January 9, 2017: A strong opposition is being voiced by SAD cadre in Kharar Assembly constituency over nomination of a prominent realtor Ranjit Singh Gill as the party candidate. The disgruntled area leaders have termed him as an 'outsider' for them.
Challenging the party’s decision, core committee member of party’s youth wing Gurvinder Singh Doomchheri rejected the candidature of Gill on the grounds that Akali Dal is a panthic party and any persons of non-panthic credentials could not be its poll candidate.
Doomchheri asserted that Gill had never been associated with the party. Its leadership reposed faith in a rich person by ignoring loyal and traditional Akali leader for the candidature. This discrimination would not be tolerated at any cost, he added.
The youth Akali leader has appealed to the SAD patron and president to reconsider their decision and avoid testing the patience of the party cadre. Besides Doomchheri, another ticket aspirant and Halka incharge of Kharar, Ujjagar Singh Badali has also voiced his opposition to the party’s decision. He has called a meeting of his supporters on January 12 at his residence to decide his next step.
It is also being speculated that another ticket aspirant Gurpartap Singh Joti who belongs to a well-knownt Akali supporter Padiala family of the area might decide to contest as an Independent candidate from this seat.
