Ludhiana January 12, 2017: Election Commission of India today launched App RoN5 to facilitate Returning Officers (RO) leverage technology to conduct elections in a smart way. This App is the brainchild of Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat and developed by 01 Synergy group.
Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab VK Singh and other senior election officials launched this App at a special function organized at Chandigarh today. The CEC Zaidi lauded the efforts of Ludhiana DC and his team.
He expressed hope that such mobile applications and network system backed by technological advances would help conduct the elections more efficiently. To start with, the ECI has cleared the use of this App as a pilot project in Ludhiana East, Ludhiana West and Jalandhar Central constituencies.
Depuity Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ravi Bhagat told babushahi.com that this Appis envisaged essentially to be an aid to the ROs and other functionaries. It will be a network of back end systems which will link up to a user friendly front end in the shape of a smart phone app (and / or a web portal). The functionaries tasked with effective conduct of elections i.e. the RO and ARO, ERO and AERO, DEO, CEO & ultimately ECI, will stand to benefit in many ways.
Its benefits include extensive detailing of all the tasks required of the concerned officer as per the law and latest ECI directions. All these tasks will time defined such as Issue of ID Cards to Polling Party at Poll Day minus 10 days. Supervisory functionaries, right up to the ECI, will not only get the details of all tasks performed but also exactly how they were performed. It will enable them to intervene in places where tasks were not performed, or on checking found to be incorrectly performed. Easy for the RO (or other functionaries) to see in a snapshot as to what exactly is required of them; so very less scope of errors. It will reduce burden of reporting for each task – on both ends of sending and seeking.
