Nihalsinghwala/ Baghapurana, January 27 - Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said AAP could never form the government in Punjab as the party was limited to the Malwa region and did not have any presence in the Majha and Doaba regions.
Addressing large gatherings in favour of party candidate SR Kler in Nihalsinghwala and Teerath Singh Mahila in Baghapurana, the SAD president said AAP was involved in a triangular contest in 21 to 22 seats in Malwa. "How many seats can it possibly win?"
He said as far as Majha and Doaba were concerned, AAP did not have any presence in both the regions. "In both regions the SAD-BJP alliance is engaged in a direct contest with the Congress party. In such a situation AAP can never form a government in the State", he added.
Campaigning as he is in the Malwa region today andtomorrow, Mr Badal said even in this region the people needed to understand the nefarious designs of AAP. "Arvind Kejriwal is trying to foment trouble in the State by courting radical elements". He said moreover a vote for AAP was a vote for destabilisation. "Kejriwal wants to use Punjab as a staging post for his fight against PM Shri Narendra Modi. Don't commit a mistake as confrontation with the centre will effect foodgrain procurement in Punjab besides other development activities. We are on the threshold of rapid growth. We cannot take the State back", he added.
Mr Badal also explained that the SAD-BJP alliance was committed to the welfare of farmers and the disadvantaged. "It is for the first time ever that any alliance has mooted a proposal to give a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal on wheat and paddy. We have also taken a decision to provide five lakh pucca houses to the houseless besides distributing five kg sugar @ Rs 10 per kg and two kg ghee @ Rs 25 per kg to the disadvantaged. Even farm labourers will get compensation in case crops are destroyed by natural calamities", he added.
Asking people to vote for development, Mr Badal said the SAD-BJP alliance was seeking their votes on the basis of its performance. "We have not only delivered on our promises but have also introduced people friendly policies and programmes. We are committed to even more rapid development, especially in rural areas, in the next five years", he added. EOM
