Sriganganagar, November 18, 2018: To attract the people, the main political parties – BJP and Congress, have released the manifestos and at the same time, the demand for inclusion of Punjabi speaking areas of Rajasthan in Punjab. This demand has put forth by the political class and SAD (Amritsar) contesting for second Assemble elections in Rajasthan.
In this context, Prof Baljinder Singh Morjand, State Secretary Rajasthan, SAD(A) has presented this demand in a letter to the President of India after consideration of economic, geographical and cultural aspects for merging of certain areas of Haryana in Rajasthan.
Prof Morjand said, the Rajasthan government always treated discriminatorily with these two districts Ganganagar and Hanuangarh of Rajasthan. With the inclusion of these areas in Punjab, the major demand of for agricultural water will be solved automatically. In almost 350 km area, food processing industry can be set up.
Accusing the government it was revealed that the government is not making adequate arrangements to buy crops of this area and 20 years ago, there was a proposal to set up an agricultural university in the name of Swami Keshavanand which was later on shifted to Bikaner but it was not benefitted to the agriculture based districts. The water coming from Punjab is released to Barani areas without giving up these two districts and the farmers of these districts going under debt.
Morjand has requested the President that the vast area of Rajsthan is becoming an obstacle in the progress and under Parliament Act 1955 and Ganganagr, Hanumangarh district may be merged in Punjab as we have cultural bonding with Punjab.
It is to be mentioned that the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar had contested the assembly elections in 1990 and got 1.5 lakh votes and now the party is contesting from five constituencies and will contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
