Ropar: Two-storey house collapses, four dead

Ropar, April 19, 2024: Four laborers have died after being buried under the debris of a collapsed house in Preet Colony of Ropar city of Punjab on Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened at three in the afternoon. When the jack was being installed to raise the house, the two-story house suddenly collapsed. The work of evacuating the workers continued till late at night.
At seven o'clock in the evening, after five hours of hard work, two laborers could be pulled out alive and one laborer died.
The laborers have been identified as Ramesh Foreman, Kaka, Sahil, Abhishek, Nizamin and all the laborers are residents of village Kalsi, Haryana. Officials of the publication reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. DC Preeti Yadav, SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana, Dr. Manu Vij, SDM and municipal council officer and fire brigade officer also inspected the spot.
Two seconds before the incident, laborer Ali Ram went to drink water when the house collapsed behind him and he was saved. Ali Ram said that he has been working together with his colleagues since April 1.
He said that around 3 o'clock his friends Ramesh, Kaka, Sahil, Abhishek and Zamin were working in the house. This house was built in 1984.The worker said that the house had become about three feet high. Wall work was being done by laying bricks. After building the new house, the owners started living in it.
The work of lifting the old house was being done to repair it. Due to the high roads and low houses in this area, water used to enter the houses. Because of this, a jack was being installed to raise the house.
