Follow these Do’s & Don’ts to survive snakebites this monsoon; issued by Health Ministry

New Delhi, August 8, 2025: With snakebite cases on the rise during the monsoon season, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the UNDP, has released crucial guidelines to save lives.
The advisory urges people to stay calm, reassure the victim, and move them slowly away from the snake. Tight clothing, jewellery, and shoes from the affected area should be removed, and the patient should be made to lie on their left side with the right leg bent for support.
Equally important are the “Don’ts.” Officials warn against attacking or killing the snake, cutting the wound, injecting anti-snake venom locally, or tying the affected limb, as these can worsen the injury.
Lying the patient on their back or using traditional unsafe treatments could be fatal.
Health experts stress that immediate transfer to the nearest medical facility is the most effective step. The public is encouraged to call the emergency helpline 15400 for assistance.
