Punjab clinches overall title at 2nd Federation Gatka Cup; Haryana shines as strong contender

Chandigarh, November 11, 2025: The rhythmic clash of wooden sticks echoed through Bengaluru City University as Punjab emerged as the undisputed champion at the 2nd Federation Gatka Cup, reaffirming its dominance in the traditional Sikh martial art.
Displaying unmatched agility and precision, Punjab’s contingent triumphed over formidable opponents from across the country to claim the overall championship title, while Haryana showcased remarkable skill to finish as the overall runners-up.
Held as part of the 2nd National Cultural Pythian Games 2025, the two-day tournament brought together Gatkabaz from several states, turning the arena into a spectacular display of tradition, discipline, and valor. Punjab’s male team reigned supreme in the boys’ division, while Haryana’s female team captured the championship crown in the girls’ category.
The runners-up titles were claimed by Haryana’s boys and Punjab’s girls, respectively. Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh shared third place in the boys’ events, while Chandigarh and Andhra Pradesh tied for third among the girls’ teams.
The championship opened with great enthusiasm under the leadership of Bijender Goel, Chairman of the Pythian Council of India. The semifinals were inaugurated by B.H. Anil Kumar, IAS, Chairman of the Organising Committee, while the final day witnessed the presence of Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of the National Gatka Association of India, who lauded the growing recognition of Gatka as a disciplined sport rooted in cultural heritage.
The event was graced by prominent dignitaries including Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, Jaspreet Singh Saini, Jagdish Singh, Aarthi Diwan, Sreejith Surendra, and coach Venugopal Velloli. The technical conduct of the tournament was ably managed by officials Harnam Singh, Harsimran Singh, Amritpal Singh, Jashanpreet Singh, Sharry Singh, Narinderpal Singh, and Aman Singh (Chhattisgarh), whose coordination ensured a seamless and spirited competition.
The 2nd Federation Gatka Cup not only celebrated sporting excellence but also underscored the revival and national recognition of Gatka — an art form symbolizing discipline, courage, and cultural pride.
