Toronto (Canada), February 28, 2025: Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have announced a new category for the 2025 Express Entry draws and updated the list of eligible occupations under existing categories as of February 27, 2025.
This latest IRCC update confirms our July 2024 prediction about the introduction of a new category for education-related occupations.
Express Entry, Canada’s primary immigration system for skilled workers, uses a points-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess candidates. In 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection to target high-demand occupations and critical skill sets.
For 2025, the system is undergoing a significant transformation to better address labor shortages, demographic goals, and Canada’s commitment to bilingualism.
2025 Priority Categories for Category-Based Express Entry Draws
While all categories remain active, IRCC has identified the following as top priorities for Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in 2025:
- French-language proficiency
- Healthcare and social services occupations
- Skilled trades occupations
- Education occupations
Candidates in these priority categories can expect more frequent and targeted draws, increasing their chances of receiving an ITA.
