Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, March 27, 2025 – In a major decision to support farmers and boost self-sufficiency in pulses production, the Central Government has approved the procurement of Toor (pigeon pea), Urad, and Masoor dal under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) at 100% of the state’s production for the 2024-25 procurement year.
The Centre has sanctioned the procurement of Toor dal in nine states – Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh – to ensure that farmers receive a fair price for their produce and to reduce India's dependence on imported pulses.
Extended Procurement Window for Karnataka
In a move to further benefit farmers, the government has extended the procurement period in Karnataka by 30 days, allowing purchases until May 1, 2025.This extension aims to maximize farmer participation and ensure that they get MSP-backed prices for their crops.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to agricultural welfare under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating:
"This initiative will protect farmers from price fluctuations, strengthen India's pulses production, and reduce import dependency. Our priority is to ensure that every farmer receives a just price for their hard work."
With this policy, the government aims to enhance domestic pulse production while securing better financial returns for farmers across multiple states.
