AAP hits the streets in Jalandhar over LPG price surge

Jalandhar (Punjab), May 3, 2026: Leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest at Company Bagh Chowk in Jalandhar against the sharp increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, calling it a major blow to small businesses and the common man.
The demonstration, led by AAP’s Trade Wing and Women’s Wing of District Jalandhar, saw the participation of a large number of office bearers and volunteers. Protesters raised slogans and demanded that the Central Government roll back the recent hike.
The protest comes after the Centre increased the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹993 on May 1, pushing the cost to over ₹3,000 in several regions. AAP leaders termed the hike “unprecedented” and accused the government of failing to control inflation.
State Secretary Harinderpal Singh Manocha said this was the third consecutive monthly increase, adding that prices have surged by over ₹1,300 since March. He criticised the government for putting additional financial pressure on small traders.
District President (Trade Wing, Jalandhar Urban) Indervansh Singh Chadha also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre, alleging economic mismanagement and pointing to the weakening of the rupee against the US dollar.
AAP leaders highlighted that the hike would severely impact halwais, small restaurant owners, and street vendors, who are already struggling with rising operational costs.
Among those present at the protest were Women’s Wing District President Shobha Baghat and Trade Wing Rural President Ashwin Kohli, along with several halka coordinators and party volunteers.
The party leadership alleged that the government only remembers the common man during elections, while burdening citizens with rising prices afterward.
