Jodhpur/Jaipur, October 29, 2025: In a major legal relief, self-styled godman Asaram, who is serving a life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail for sexually assaulting a minor, has been granted six months of interim bail by the Rajasthan High Court on medical grounds.
The order was passed by a division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma. The court granted interim relief after considering Asaram’s deteriorating health condition. He is currently undergoing treatment at Arogya Private Hospital in Jodhpur.
Asaram had approached the court seeking regular bail, citing his poor health and advanced age. While the court did not grant regular bail, it allowed him temporary release for six months for medical care.
This is not the first time Asaram has been granted such relief. Earlier, both the Supreme Court and High Courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat had allowed him short-term interim bail on health grounds. In January this year, the Supreme Court had also granted him temporary bail until March-end after noting his multiple ailments and history of heart attacks.
The case against Asaram dates back to August 2013, when he was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl at his ashram near Jodhpur. He was arrested on September 1, 2013, from Indore after the complaint was transferred from Delhi to Jodhpur. In April 2018, a special court convicted Asaram and sentenced him to imprisonment till the end of his life.
Following his conviction, widespread protests erupted across the country by his followers, often leading to police intervention near Jodhpur Central Jail.
Apart from the Jodhpur case, Asaram and his son Narayan Sai are also facing separate rape charges filed by two sisters in Surat, Gujarat. The latest order marks the first time Asaram has received such a long duration of interim bail, making it a significant legal reprieve for the 82-year-old convict.
