Breaking: Minister Harjot Bains summoned by Sri Akal Takht

Amritsar (Punjab), August 4, 2025: In a significant and stern move, the highest temporal seat of Sikh authority, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has summoned Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains to appear in person and provide a clarification over his role in a controversial event held in Srinagar.
The directive comes in the wake of serious allegations that a program, organized to mark the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, was conducted in a manner that allegedly hurt the sentiments of the global Sikh community and violated the sanctity of Sikh traditions.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the matter, the five Singh Sahibs (high priests) will convene a crucial meeting on August 6 at 9 AM, chaired by Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargarj, the Acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.
Minister Bains has been ordered to be physically present and provide an explanation for his actions at the event.
Alongside Minister Bains, Punjab Language Department Director Jaswant Singh Zafar was also summoned. However, officials clarified that he is currently out of the country until August 12 due to a close family wedding and will be called to appear at a later date.
The political and religious communities are closely watching this high-stakes development. The outcome of the August 6 meeting may set a precedent for how such issues are handled in the future when it comes to religious sensitivities and political responsibilities.
