In a significant breakthrough against organised crime, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with SAS Nagar Police, arrested Harjinder Singh—a close associate of foreign-based gangster Rajesh Kumar alias Sonu Khatri—from the Kharar Bus Stand. The arrest is part of the state’s intensified crackdown on gangster networks, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed that police recovered three pistols, including two .32 bore and one .30 bore weapons, along with 14 cartridges from the accused. Harjinder Singh was reportedly planning a sensational crime in Punjab under the direct instructions of his handler Sonu Khatri, who is currently based abroad.
The DGP stated that Harjinder was involved in an armed attack on rival gang members at the "Future Heights" complex in Kharar and was actively plotting further crimes in the state. "His arrest is a major step forward in our continuous drive to dismantle gangster networks with cross-border connections," Yadav said, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network.
Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban informed that AGTF teams, led by DSP Rajan Parminder, tracked the accused based on human and technical intelligence and successfully apprehended him at the Kharar Bus Stand.
The accused is already named in FIR No. 68 dated February 24, 2025, under sections 125, 194, 194(2), 296, 193(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, registered at Police Station City Kharar, SAS Nagar.
