PAU conducts training on Fruit Crop Management

Ludhiana (Punjab), October 3, 2025: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the guidance of the Dean, College of Agriculture, organized a training programme on “Management Practices of Fruit Crops” at village Kular, Ludhiana.
The event was part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme conducted by final-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students and witnessed the participation of around 40 farmers.
Dr. Harsimrat Kaur Bons, Senior Fruit Scientist, addressed the gathering with a lecture on fruit crop management, guiding farmers on key issues such as fruit cracking, fruit drop, and fruit fly.
Dr. Amanpreet, Agronomist, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, highlighted the benefits of new canola varieties like GSC 7, known for their low erucic acid content and heart health advantages. She also shared recommended practices for oilseed crop cultivation.Dr. Kulvir Kaur, Assistant Professor at the Skill Development Centre, informed farmers about the range of training programmes organized throughout the year to build agricultural skills.
Dr. Amandeep Singh, Agricultural Extension Officer, urged farmers to adopt scientific paddy straw management practices and discussed their multiple benefits. Student Karanveer Sharma delivered an insightful lecture on rabi crop management, while the farmers expressed interest in procuring evergreen fruit plants and fruit fly traps.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Lakhwinder Kaur, Coordinator of the RAWE programme, acknowledging the contribution of farmers, PAU experts, and extension officers. The event was coordinated by Gurteg Singh Bons, with the presence of Arshdeep Singh, Secretary of the Cooperative Society.
