Police marks ‘National Police Memorial Day’, martyrs’ families felicitated
Ferozepur, October 21, 2025: The National Police Commemoration Day was observed with solemnity and respect at the Police Lines, Ferozepur Cantonment, to honour the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Officers from the police and civil administration, along with family members of martyrs, paid floral tributes at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial.
Led by DSP Karan Sharma, police personnel presented a reverse arms salute in memory of the fallen heroes, followed by a two-minute silence observed by all officers and guests. On this occasion, the family members of police martyrs were also felicitated. SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Gurdev Singh Dhamm were among the dignitaries present.
Addressing the gathering, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that the supreme sacrifices made by police personnel for maintaining peace and harmony can never be forgotten. He recalled that on October 21, 1959, ten Indian policemen were martyred in an ambush by Chinese forces in the Hot Springs area of Ladakh. To commemorate their bravery and remember all police personnel who died in the line of duty, the day was designated as Police Commemoration Day by the IGPs’ Conference in 1960, to be observed annually across all states and districts.
SSP Sidhu added that Punjab Police has a glorious and sacrifice-filled history, having made immense contributions to safeguard the unity, integrity, and communal harmony of the nation. “It is because of these martyrs that we live in peace and freedom today. Punjab Police stands firmly with the families of these brave hearts,” he said.
Earlier in the ceremony, names of the police and security personnel martyred across the country were read out in remembrance. The event was attended by a large number of civil and police officers, Home Guards, and family members of martyrs. The stage proceedings were conducted by Lakhvir Singh.
