Chandigarh, May 9, 2026 Temperatures across Punjab and Chandigarh are once again on the rise, with a marginal increase of 0.8°C recorded compared to Friday. However, the overall mercury levels remain around 5°C below normal, keeping heatwave conditions at bay for now.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, the weather is expected to remain clear and dry on May 9 and May 10. However, a significant change is expected thereafter, as a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rainfall has been issued for the period between May 11 and May 14 across the state.
Bathinda emerged as the hottest district in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 38.1°C, even as other regions continued to experience comparatively moderate conditions due to fluctuating weather patterns.
Meteorological officials reported that a cyclonic circulation is currently active over central Pakistan and adjoining parts of Punjab and Rajasthan, influencing weather conditions across North India.
In addition, a trough line extending from Haryana through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal up to Bangladesh is also contributing to changing atmospheric conditions in the region.
Weather experts further indicated that a fresh western disturbance is likely to become active over the Western Himalayan region from May 10 onwards. This system may bring another shift in weather conditions across Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
As a result, several areas are expected to experience rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds during the coming days, prompting authorities to stay alert and monitor the evolving situation closely.
