Chandigarh, August 14, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Harjit Singh Sandhu as its candidate for the upcoming Tarn Taran by-election in Punjab. Sandhu, the current District President of BJP Tarn Taran since December 2022, brings extensive political experience and grassroots leadership to the contest.
Born July 14, 1985, Sandhu is a graduate with diplomas in Computer Application and Operation Theater Technology, Sandhu has played a pivotal role in expanding BJP’s membership base in Tarn Taran, adding over 40,000 members and significantly increasing the party’s vote share in recent elections. He has also actively contributed to social welfare activities, including pandemic relief efforts.

Joined Youth Akali Dal in 2007; served as Circle President (2009-2012), District General Secretary (2012-2015), State General Secretary (2015-2019), and State-Wise President (2019-Dec 2021).

Actively campaigned for BJP during 2022 Assembly elections despite farmers’ protests.

Added over 3,200 members personally and helped create more than 40,000 BJP members in Tarn Taran district.

During 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP received about 37,000 votes from Tarn Taran due to efforts under his leadership.
