Longowal (Sangrur), January 11, 2026: In a significant political development, several prominent leaders from Longowal on Saturday quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Those who joined SAD include President of Nagar Council Longowal Parminder Kaur Brar, husband. Kamal Singh Brar, Karam Singh, a founder member of the Aam Aadmi Party; and S. Gagandeep Singh, District Social Media Incharge of AAP.

Shiromani Akali Dal President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal formally inducted them into the party and assured them full respect and due honour within the party fold.
Welcoming the new entrants, Badal said their experience and grassroots presence would further strengthen the Akali Dal in the region.
The leaders stated that although they had worked with AAP for a long time, they decided to part ways after understanding what they described as the party’s “anti-Punjab agenda.”
They said they chose to join the Shiromani Akali Dal, calling it Punjab’s only true regional party committed to safeguarding the state’s interests.
